Asexual: A person who does not experience sexual attraction. While research on asexuality is extremely limited, there is a small percentage of people who identify as asexual. Their existence adds a new but highly scrutinized dimension to the study of sexuality. The medical community is divided on whether asexuality is merely a lack of desire, or a condition to be treated as a sexual orientation? Some say asexuality is where homosexuality was five decades ago: fundamentally misunderstood, and the target of scientific attempts to explain it away. This episode addresses the growing scientific interest in asexuality, those people who identify with this lifestyle, and asexuals who go undiagnosed for sexual problems and aversions that they might have. We meet six individuals who identify as asexual (including a British comic, a Physics university student, and a newspaper editor) who are adamant about getting the word out. In addition to the six self-described asexuals, we'll meet "Harry", a man who suffers from sexual anorexia.. While the food anorectic obsesses over denial of nourishment, the sexual anorectic focuses on avoidance of any kind of sexual contact. For Harry, his addiction to not having sex gave him a sense of superiority. This program is recommended for an audience aged 17 and up.
