Ezat Mossallanejad spoke out against human rights violations in his native Iran and was tortured many times for his outspokenness. He was in exile for many years under threat of death, but never lost faith in the rightness of his cause or the basic goodness of other people. He says the torturers wanted to take away his humanity, but today his work as a policy analyst and advocate at the Canadian Centre for Victims of Torture is proof that they did not succeed.
