Professor Greg Blevins of Governor State University helps students achieve an in-depth understanding of the uses and abuses of drugs in contemporary society. His course provides a balanced, factual account of the physiological, psychological, and sociological aspects of drug abuse. Each lesson begins with an examination of existing student perceptions, using it as a springboard to introduce pertinent information on drug use and abuse. Students study substance abuse from the perspectives of legal and ethical issues, scientific pharmacology, and social attitudes. The end goal of the course it to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the resulting effects of substance use and the possible approaches to treating and preventing it.
