This program investigates the main environmental issues that have had an effect on design. It looks at some problematic aspects of design and how some designs that have made major contributions to society have had negative environmental consequences. The viewer is led through an exploration of eco-friendly design and how designers use Life Cycle Assessments to ensure that products have a minimal environmental impact. Sustainable design techniques are investigated and a case study of the Beddington Zero Energy building is used to demonstrate what is possible using sustainable design techniques. A further Case Study of the VW 1 Litre Car demonstrates innovative solutions to environmental problems.
