The Sherpas live around the Everest region in Nepal. They trade wool and salt from Tibet for hides, dried potatoes and other foods. This was cut off when the Chinese took over Tibet and the Sherpas had to look for other sources of revenue. They traded more with India and trekking increased dramatically. Both these have led to dramatic changes in the Sherpa way of life.
